HarterHill Network

Deep Dive

The Network

A proposed open-source operating foundation for groups that need to coordinate, share information, make decisions, and support local exchange without surrendering control to one central platform.

Who It's For

A family stewardship group may use it to coordinate records and responsibilities. A club may use it for membership and decisions. A municipality may use it for public participation. Local businesses, workers, and creators may use connected applications to circulate opportunity. Each group keeps its own purpose, rules, and boundaries; shared protocols let groups cooperate when they choose.

This is not one giant community database — it is a fabric of independently governed communities that can exchange selected information, services, and trust signals by consent.

"The community — not the software — decides what features, rules, and structures it needs."

The Problem

Centralized platforms exploit user data as their core business model. Fully anonymous spaces lack the trust signals communities need to function safely. Meanwhile, existing civic and family-coordination tools tend to be rigid, administration-heavy, and disconnected from the people they're meant to serve.

The Solution

A modular platform intended to support multiple layered use cases — each deployable independently, each interoperable through shared identity and control primitives that are still being designed and researched (see Progress & Evidencefor what is currently implemented versus proposed).

Family Stewardship & Succession Hub

Founding Use Case

Coordinating multi-generational trust stewardship with verifiable records and privacy-respecting access controls is the founding use case pressuring the architecture — it is not the outer boundary of the platform.

Special-Needs Family Networks

Concept

Purpose-built coordination tools for caregivers, guardians, and support networks around vulnerable dependents.

Community Bulletin Boards / Local Classifieds

Informed by an Operating Project

Chuck’s List is an existing, independently operating project informing the bulletin, curation, publishing, and discovery workflows a future Network module could support.

Vulnerable Citizen Protection Networks

Concept

Pseudonymous, trust-scored networks that let communities look out for at-risk neighbors without centralizing sensitive data.

Civic & Municipal Participation

Concept

Participatory budgeting and polling tools that give residents verifiable, auditable input into local governance.

Coming to /docs

Full architecture and technical specifications (federation protocol, identity model, data schemas) will be published as open-source engineering documentation. See/docs for status.
